Jackal
A black raven cawed out a warning to the old dog, it's wings flapping out wide as a thread. The dog simply glanced at the bird, and continued walking, calling it's bluff. Seeming to realise that even if the dog was as old as he looked, that there was no way for the bird to win, the raven gave one last caw before taking off for the shelter in the trees. This didn't bother Jackal as he continued walking, as if the bird had never been there. "That could have been food" he thought idlly to himself, looking at the tree lines a bit wistfully. It didn't matter anymore, though, as the bird was long gone.
Seeming to shrug it off, Jackal half slid, half walked towards the frozen lakes. He knew there was a carcass here, he had watched the wolf pack as they brought down the caribou. He could only hope it was still there.
As he limped closer to the waters, his eyes could pick out the slight red discoloration in the snow and ice. He smiled grimly as he noted that the carcass was indeed still there, but almost deplenished. It's still dinner anyways. he thought, as he stopped right next to the meager meal.
Jackal flicked his ears back and forth, and kept his nose to the air. Not sensing anyone that would bring danger, he dug his muzzle into the meat and began to feast. He was just licking off the last of it when his ears picked up the sound of crunching snow. Immediatly, he was on his guard, his near blind eyes searching the nearby distrcit. However, everything seemed to blur together, and he couldn't quite tell if he had heard anything at all in the first place.
